What does this image converter do?

Each file is checked by its real contents, not its extension, decoded in your browser and saved in the format you pick. It is the tool to use when you do not want a separate page for each pair of formats, or when a batch contains several different types.

Nothing is uploaded. Decoding and encoding run on your own device, so private photos, scans and screenshots are never sent to a server. Location and camera data are not kept in the converted files.

Any supported image goes in. The format you choose comes out. (HEIC, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF)

Which output format should you choose?

JPG is the usual pick for photos: small files that open everywhere. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which suits screenshots, logos and graphics, but photos become large. WebP makes smaller files than JPG or PNG for websites, and every current browser can show it.

AVIF is smaller still at the same visual quality, but it takes longer to create and some older software cannot open it. GIF is limited to 256 colors and a single frame here, so use it only when a program insists on GIF.

Inputs, options and limits

Accepted inputs are JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG, HEIC and TIFF. Animated GIF, WebP and AVIF files convert their first frame only, and a multi-page TIFF converts its first page. SVG files are drawn at their own size.

Transparent areas become a solid background when the output is JPG or GIF. White is the default, and you can choose black, gray or a custom color. PNG, WebP and AVIF keep transparency. For PNG output there is an Optimize size option that makes the file smaller without changing pixels.

  • Defaults: quality 90 for JPG and WebP, 60 for AVIF.
  • Up to 30 files per batch on a computer and 15 on a phone, 50 MB per file on a computer.
  • HEIC works in Safari, and in Chrome or Edge on devices that can decode HEVC video. Other formats work in any current browser.
  • For PDF files use the PDF to JPG tool, and for text in pictures use Image to Text.

Questions

How do I convert an image to JPG?

Add the image, leave the output on JPG, and download the result. The quality slider defaults to 90, which keeps pictures sharp with a moderate file size.

Which file types can I convert?

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG, HEIC and TIFF can go in. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and GIF can come out.

Is this image converter free and private?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up or watermark, and the conversion runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

Can I convert a whole batch at once?

Yes. Add up to 30 files on a computer or 15 on a phone, even in mixed formats, and download them as a ZIP.

Why is my AVIF conversion slow?

AVIF is the most demanding format to create. Large photos can take several seconds each. JPG and WebP are much faster. On phones, AVIF output is limited to images of about 12 megapixels.

Why did my HEIC file not open?

HEIC needs Safari, or Chrome or Edge on a device that can decode HEVC video. If your browser cannot, a message above the upload box says so. Firefox does not support HEIC.

Does converting to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so a small amount of detail is lost, and the loss grows as you lower the quality. Converting a JPG to another format will not restore detail that was already lost.
