- Add your photosChoose JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF files. Add several to resize them all with the same setting.
- Choose a sizeType a width or height in pixels, pick a percentage, use a preset such as Instagram or HD, or enter a target size in KB.
- Resize and downloadPress Resize, compare the result with the original, then download each image or a ZIP.
What is image resizing?
Resizing changes how many pixels a picture has. A photo 4000 pixels wide has 16 times the pixels of the same photo at 1000 pixels wide, because the height shrinks by the same factor. Showing it on a 1000 pixel wide web page therefore wastes about 15 of every 16 pixels, roughly 94 percent. Scaling it down makes the file smaller and the page faster, with no visible difference.
How the picture is scaled matters. This tool uses Lanczos resampling through the pica library, which keeps edges crisp when shrinking and avoids the jagged look of simple scaling. Making a picture larger cannot add real detail, so large enlargements look soft. You will see a warning when you go beyond four times the original size.
Resizing is different from cropping. Resizing keeps the whole picture and changes its dimensions, while cropping cuts away parts of it. If you need both, resize first, then crop.
Four ways to set the new size
Pixels is the most exact. With Lock aspect ratio on, changing the width updates the height so the picture is not stretched. Turn the lock off to set both numbers freely, then choose how the picture fits: Stretch, Contain (adds a background so nothing is cut) or Cover (fills the frame and trims the edges).
Percentage is quick for a whole batch. 50 percent halves both sides and leaves a quarter of the pixels. Preset gives common targets in one click. File size aims at a number of KB and lowers JPG or WebP quality, and the size only if it must, until the file fits.
- Instagram post, 1080 by 1080. HD, 1920 by 1080. 4K, 3840 by 2160.
- X (Twitter), 1200 by 675. Facebook, 1200 by 630. YouTube, 1280 by 720.
- Passport style square, 600 by 600. Check the exact rules of your country before you apply.
Resize many images at once
Add a folder of photos and use Percentage or a Pixels value with the lock on. With several images, each one is scaled to fit inside the width and height you set and keeps its own shape, so portrait and landscape photos both come out right. Results can be downloaded together as a ZIP.
Allow upscaling is on by default. Turn it off if a batch contains small images you do not want to enlarge.
Resize on iPhone, Android and desktop
On a phone, open this page, tap Choose files and select photos from your library. The EXIF rotation of phone photos is applied, so a portrait shot is resized as a portrait. Location and camera data are removed from the result.
Photos from an iPhone are often HEIC. Convert them with the HEIC to JPG tool first, then resize the JPG here.
For a smaller file, also use the Compress image tool. Resizing reduces the pixel count, compression reduces how many bytes each pixel needs, and the two together give the best result.
Before and after

Questions
How do I resize an image without losing quality?
Shrinking keeps quality very well with Lanczos scaling. Keep the output quality at 90 or higher, and avoid enlarging beyond about twice the original size, because enlarging cannot add detail.
How do I resize an image on my iPhone?
Open this page in Safari, tap Choose files, select a photo, set a width or pick a preset and press Resize. Then save the result. HEIC photos should be converted to JPG first.
Is resizing here free and private?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on use. The image is processed inside your browser and is never uploaded.
What size should I use for a passport or ID photo?
Requirements differ by country, often a square or a 35 by 45 mm ratio at a certain resolution. Check the official rules, then use Pixels with the lock off to enter the exact numbers.
How do I make an image a specific file size, like 200 KB?
Choose File size, enter 200 and press Resize. The tool tries the highest quality that fits and only reduces the dimensions if the target cannot be reached otherwise.
Can I resize images in bulk?
Yes. Add up to 30 files on a computer or 15 on a phone. One setting applies to all, and each picture keeps its own shape.
Does resizing change the format?
Not by default. The output is the same format as the input. You can switch to JPG, PNG or WebP in Output format. AVIF, GIF and BMP files are saved as PNG or JPG.
